For readers in the San Francisco/San Jose area who want to stay close to home this holiday weekend, there are several things to do within just a few miles. The San Francisco Bay area has long been an important place for music from all genres. And today is no different.
One of the more popular venues in the San Francisco area is the Brass Rail Nightclub at 160 Persian Drive in Sunnyvale. Although it’s a “gentleman’s club” today, it has featured some of the biggest names in rock history since 1960. Iconic groups like the Shirelles and the Coasters played here as well as several South Bay bands. Creedence Clearwater Revival even played here once when they were still known as the Golliwogs.
Possibly the most memorable band to play here, though, was Sonny J and the Tombstones. These guys would arrive at the club in a funeral hearse. They would then take a coffin from the back of the hearse and put it on the bar. When it was time for the band’s set to begin, the saxophone player jumped out of the coffin and started playing the first song.
That’s just one of many stories from the SF Bay area. Whether you’re a local or someone taking a trip to the area, try to visit one of the places where legends were made. It’s totally worth your time.
Since the General Motors Corporation threw its hat in the proverbial hybrid technology ring, the company hasn’t made many waves. But recently, as demonstrated by June’s sales figures, GM’s hybrids are starting to get more recognition.
