Four Tips for Buying a Hearse Based on Model Years

funeral hearseOwning your own hearse can be a fun way to get around town. Just imagine the weird looks and stares you’ll get when you pull up next to somebody at a red light. But do you know how to find a hearse and how to find the kind that meets your joyriding needs? Here are some tips regarding model years and features that you may not have thought about, but they are important to ensure a successful search for the funeral hearse of your dreams.

1. The 1959 hearse is the most sought after year. Funeral hearses from this year were featured in popular movies like Harold and Maude and Ghostbusters. You might be able to find a great deal on a 1959 funeral hearse, but it’s going to take a lot of searching and even more patience.

2. Hearses made between 1965 and 1976 are fairly common. You shouldn’t pay more than about $6500 for a hearse from these years even if it’s in great condition. Many of them are priced much, much lower though.

3. If you’re looking for a hearse with fins (and I don’t mean the kind for swimming), you’ll want to find one made between 1958 and 1964. The fins give these funeral cars a classic look that shouts luxury and comfort.

4. For a simple hearse without all the bells and whistles or unique designs, look for the ones between 1977 and 1989. You can sometimes buy these at a bargain directly from a funeral home in your area that has upgraded to a newer model or from a local limousine dealer.
