Hearse enthusiasts come in many forms. Some daintily protect their cars, driving them only onto and off trailers or on a very occasional foray to the next county. Others see their hearses as art pieces, and travel with them to art shows and other get togethers around the country. Still others ride their hearses hard, using them as a primary form of transportation and eagerly taking them to any event possible.
Hearse enthusiasts of this last group recently congregated in Denver for Hearse Co 2008. It was clear that the local media was unsure what to make of the event, but the hearse enthusiasts had a fabulous time. Sponsored by the Denver Hearse Club, the convention was clearly designed for those who believe life is meant to be lived and hearses are meant to be enjoyed.
A particularly unique factor that makes Hearse Con different from the rest is that it is free. While most shows require an admission fee and recommend an expensive convention hotel, Hearse Con charged less than $7 for the single charged event, a tour of a local transportation museum. Accommodations were at a local campground – camp out in your hearse and spend the night drinking with your new friends around the campfire. The camping fee was only $20 per vehicle.
Hearse Con is not for everyone, but if you love to live life, make new friends and show off your hearse, it can be an excellent choice. So why not start making plans for next year’s Hearse Con 2009?
